Welcome
*NOLA members and other researchers and writers!
Casa de Carmen is located in the heart
of the Big Country. If you’re researching
John Selman, John Larn, Fort Griffin or any of the colorful
characters that passed through or incidences that took place
at the edge of the frontier in the mid-1800’s come
stay with us. Casa de Carmen is two blocks from the circa
1880 Shackelford County courthouse and a 15 minute drive
from Old Fort Griffin. At this writing, the owner of the
land that “The Flat” once stood on is rebuilding
the old town. (www.albanytexas.com).
Once you’re done with your research,
or if you’re through and need to put pen to paper,
sit down at the large dining table in the quiet den and
write your story. Or go to the loft, plug in your laptop
on the big desk then send it to a waiting publisher through
our DSL connection. Either way you’ll get the quiet
time and atmosphere you need to finish the job.
If writers block sets in and a little distraction
is called for then walk over to the Old Jail Art
Center and see original Renoirs or Han Dynasty and T'ang
Dynasty Chinese pieces. (www.theoldjailartcenter.org).
Need “liquid courage”? Walk to The Beehive and
wash some of that trail dust down your gullet. While your
boot sets on the rail bend elbows and tell tall tales with
some honest-to-goodness real live working cowboys.
Once that manuscript is complete, drop
by Bright Sky Press (www.brightskypress.com)
and see if they can help you get the word out to the waiting
public. Then walk next door to Lynch Line Books and imagine
the cover of your tome greeting people when they walk in
the door.
So come on! Give ol’ Warren a call or e-mail
me and let me set you up in Casa de Carmen.
I’ll leave the light on,
Warren Johnson
